Department of Biosciences - Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)

To explore the nature of life's from molecules, Cells, to organisms and their environment, Biosciences is an exciting area of interest that significantly contributing to major advances related to human and environmental health.

The gift of life is fascinating, and the study of biology is one of the most rewarding experiences available to you at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in the Department of Biosciences which is located at Solomon Mahlangu Campus (SMC). The Department is a rapid expanding unit with researcher working at the cutting edge of System Biology and System Ecology research. The interest of academic staff includes all types of living organisms, from bacteria, through the plant and animal kingdom. The Biosciences Department offers exceptional opportunities to learn, work, and collaborate across levels of biological organization and research. We live in one of the most exciting times biology has ever delivered, with the new technologies used in molecular biology, genetic engineering, environmental toxicology, ecology, bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics that allowing us to discover and unravel the fundamental mechanisms and processes that control life.

Vision:

To be a Centre of excellence in teaching and offering professional services related to biosciences.

Mission:

To be a world renowned member of scientific community by promoting development through training, research, consultancy and delivery of services in the area of biosciences.

The Department of Biosciences is a vibrant community of teachers, researchers and students that working across a wide range of disciplines in biological sciences that including cytology, histology, botany, zoology, entomology, parasitology, conservation, toxicology, ecology, biodiversity, biotechnology, genetics and evolution. Practical laboratory work and field practical are the integral part of teaching which are also compulsory in order to attain a high level of knowledge and skills. Our great commitment to teaching and research ensures our students graduate with a broad base in contemporary biological thought, a passion for lifelong learning and strong foundations for a career in the biological sciences and related areas. Come to join us and develop your interests within biology while gaining insight into current issues related to biosciences.
